The BOSS CE-717 is a preamp based upon the Boss CE-1 Chorus, but with the addition of an EQ section. The EQ has three frequency bands (High, Mid, and Low) plus a notch filter and an on/off switch to select between buffered or pass-through bypass. It also has a blend control to mix the clean and dirty channels and a gain knob to set how much crunch is applied to the signal.

It sounds very good with both the clean channel and with the Gain turned up or down. With the Gain turned up the effect on the dirty channel is very similar to RE mode and with the gain down it’s a more subtle version of the clean channel.
